As part of London Climate Action Week, I’m excited to share a major milestone in sustainable construction: the launch of London’s first dedicated Green Plant Academy in Earls Court. This new facility is a game-changer for our industry and a critical investment in the green skills needed to meet future demand.
Backed by key industry partners including , The Skills Centre, Places for London (TFL) and The Earls Court Development Company, this academy addresses the urgent skills shortage in low-carbon construction. The Construction Industry Training Board (CITB) estimates that we’ll need over 250,000 new workers by 2028, with a specific need for 6,200 plant operatives in London by 2027.
What sets this facility apart is its dedicated focus on zero-emission construction equipment. Trainees will receive fully funded, industry-recognised qualifications through partnerships with NOCN and support from sustainable construction leaders like Sunbelt Rentals, JCB, and FM Conway.
This is more than a training centre—it’s a hub for innovation, providing career development in green constructionwhile reducing the sector’s environmental footprint. For anyone passionate about decarbonising the built environment, this represents the future of our workforce.
I believe initiatives like this are essential as we scale up green construction careers and embrace sustainable building practices across the UK. Whether you’re an employer, policymaker, or aspiring construction professional, this is one to watch.
